MOVEABLE FEAST - GRETNA GREEN SERVICES

Where? Welcome Break, Gretna Green Services (M74, junction 21)

What's the lowdown? Motorway services may seem like bleak, soulless places, but when there are three fractious children in the back of the car, anywhere to stop and get some breakfast is welcome.  With each full adult breakfast (£7.95) we got a kid's breakfast (four items from the buffet) for 1p.

The good? Not only was the food freshly cooked, the coffee actually tasted of coffee rather than the usual warmish brown liquid.  There was also a great outdoor playpark for the kids to work off all the energy they had built up while being cooped up in the car for a couple of hours.

The bad? Having to queue behind the hen party in their matching pink cowboy hats.
