SITTING PRETTY AT THE SERVICE STATION

A motorway service station has gained top honours in the Loo of the Year Awards 2006.

The Welcome Break sites on both sides of the A50, between Derby and East Midlands Airport, have been given a five-star rating.

The awards involve inspectors making unannounced visits to more than 1,100 sites over a four month period.

All of the sites' toilets are graded from one star to the maximum five-star award.

Unacceptable toilets are not graded at all.

Awards director Richard Chisnell said: "The toilets are judged against more than 100 different inspection criteria."

The service station's site director, Ian Finnie, said: "The staff here work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times.

"It's great that their efforts have been rewarded."
