M5 LOOS CLEAN UP AT AWARDS

Staff at an M5 service station are celebrating after winning the five-star Loo of the Year Award for 2006.

The thousands of motorists who arrive every week at the Welcome Break station at Gordano have been able to spend a penny in luxury since the £1 million toilet block was opened in July last year.

Also provided are four shower cubicles, baby changing facilities and music piped through speakers.

Inspectors made more than 1,100 visits to sites throughout the country.

The service station's site director Andy James said: "Our toilets are used by 96 per cent of the 30,000 visitors that arrive every week and they are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

"So it really does take a team effort to maintain such high standards at all times."
