HOME FROM HOME AT SERVICE LOO
Any drivers caught short while driving north out of London will be delighted to know of a recommendation handed out to a service station in the borough.
London Gateway, near Mill Hill on the M1, has been awarded a four-star rating in the Loo of the Year awards, which aim to highlight standards of 'away from home' toilet provisions around the country.
Inspectors made unannounced 'visits' to more than 1,100 sites during a four-month period, before this week leaking the result that they had decided the Gateway's facilities were among the best in Britain. Centres can be awarded up to five stars, but unacceptable toilets are not graded at all.
The service station's site director, Jonathan Elliott, said: "I am delighted with the award. The staff here work hard to ensure that the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that their efforts have been rewarded. Our toilets are open to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so it really does take a team effort to maintain such high standards at all times."
Clearly the team of toilet testers were happy with what they saw, and, presumably, smelt. We are proud that the borough's only motorway service station is better than the bog standard ones found elsewhere in the country.
